CLINICAL PILATES

Clinical Pilates is a form of exercise and rehabilitation that combines the traditional pilates principles with the latest scientific research being undertaken by qualified physiotherapists.

Each Clinical Pilates sessions focuses on teaching clients to improve their core (mid-section) stability through the contraction of specific muscle groups and correct posture.  These particular muscles create a brace-like hold around your lower back, thus protecting it from possible injury.

Clinical Pilates is an excellent form of exercise to treat conditions such as:

  • Low Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Poor Posture
  • Sports Injuries
  • Poor Flexibility
  • Pre/Post Natal Pregnancy
  • Arthritis
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Poor Fitness Levels

Whilst the main focus is on improving core stability, exercises are performed involving the entire body.  This helps to improve factors such as body strength, flexibility, posture, breathing patterns and mental focus.

At Pilates @ Brighton, all the Clinical Pilates sessions involve the use of special spring-loaded pilates equipment such as the Reformer beds and Trapeze table.  Participants are also given specific floor exercises so that they can continue to exercise at home or work.

Following an initial one-on-one physiotherapy assessment and Clinical Pilates introduction, clients can choose to continue their sessions either privately (1:1) or semi-privately (maximum of 3 people).  These sessions run for approximately one hour.

Clinical Pilates sessions are covered by most Private Health Funds, WorkCover, and TAC.

Those clients with Private Health insurance can claim their Clinical Pilates sessions directly using our HICAPS facility.

If you would like any further information about Clinical Pilates sessions, please email luke@pilatesbrighton.com.au or call the clinic directly on (03) 9591 0500.

MYOTHERAPY

Myotherapy involves deep tissue muscle therapy, with the aim to decrease the tension and 'knots' that exist in the muscles.

Myotherapists use various techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point release, stretching and dry needling, to achieve the desired results.

Myotherapy is covered by most private health insurance funds (except MBF), and with HICAPS facilities available, claims can be made on the spot, with AMEX, Visa, Mastercard and EFTPOS facilities.

Myotherapy appointments are also available for pregnant women, allowing them to lie on their stomach through the use of a specialized cushioned pregnancy support.

Our two myotherapists are Jaclyn McGibbony (Mob. 0417 003 501) and Jenny Collins (Mob. 0425 713 425).

PREGNANCY TREATMENT

With a specially designed pregnancy treatment table, the pregnant woman can lie on her stomach and receive Myotherapy and Physiotherapy treatment. This allows the appropriate treatment to the sacro-iliac joint (SIJ) region that commonly causes problems as the weight of the baby increases.

Appointments with Jaclyn McGibbony can be made by calling (03) 9591 0500 or 0417 003 501.
